How do I turn a PDF into Anki flashcards?

PDF → Anki is a two-step job: extract study-worthy Q&A from the PDF, then package cards as .apkg. Neurako’s PDF to Flashcards tool does both in the browser (BYOK LLM for generation).

Steps

  1. 1.

    Upload or paste PDF content

    Open PDF to Flashcards and upload a study PDF, or paste extracted text if the PDF is scanned heavily.

  2. 2.

    Generate candidate cards

    Run generation with your own API key (BYOK). Review fronts and backs; delete weak cards before export.

  3. 3.

    Export .apkg or CSV

    Download Anki package or CSV so you can edit further in a spreadsheet.

  4. 4.

    Import into Anki

    File → Import in Anki Desktop. Prefer one concept per card before you start reviewing.

    Or study in Neurako

    Use Open in Neurako for FSRS review without installing Anki.

What carries over

  • Generated question/answer text
  • Not the original PDF layout, annotations, or page numbers as media
  • Not Quizlet or Anki review history (new cards)

Do I need a Neurako account?
No for the browser tool export. Open in Neurako handoff uses the Neurako app/web import flow when you choose that path.
Scanned PDFs?
Image-only scans need OCR first. Paste cleaned text or use a PDF with selectable text for best results.
