How do I convert a PDF to flashcards?

PDF to flashcards is extract → generate → edit → export. Neurako’s free tool extracts selectable text in the browser, generates cards with your BYOK LLM key, and lets you download .apkg or hand off to Neurako. Markdown and plain text work too.

Steps

1.
Open the PDF to Flashcards tool
Go to tools.neurako.com/pdf-to-flashcards. Keep PDF selected as the source (or switch to Markdown/Text).
2.
Drop a text-based PDF
Upload a file up to 50 MB. Extraction runs locally with pdf.js — the PDF is not uploaded to Neurako. Image-only scans need OCR first.
3.
Connect your AI key and generate
Verify a BYOK provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, OpenRouter, or Groq), set cards per section, then generate. Review and edit cards as chunks complete.
4.
Export or study in Neurako
Download Anki .apkg / CSV / JSON, or use Open in Neurako to hand the deck to the app import flow.

What carries over

Generated front/back text you keep after editing
Not the original PDF layout, annotations, or embedded images as media
Not prior Anki or Neurako review history (new cards)
